Do you need to get uncomfortable?

Dear Wonderful Woman,

I hope you're well.

When you think about growth and getting the things that you want in your career that on the other side of fear, it takes courage.

The truth about growth is that won't be painless, there may well be resistance, fear and an unwillingness initially to take a leap into the unknown.

And so what can help us to navigate the gap between the uncomfortable and what we are seeking to get in our careers.

Today I am sharing 3 thoughts to support you to think about why getting uncomfortable could be one of the biggest things you could do to support your career growth.

Here are 3 thoughts to support being courageous in facing your discomfort to achieve your biggest career dreams.

1 You Only Get 1 Life

You only get 1 life to live, time passes and cannot be stopped. In this 1 life we don't know how long we will have. So start small, do a test in area that you feel uncomfortable doing or stepping forward for. Ask for support and accountability to help you to move forward with taking action.

2 What if I FAIL?

If you don't make the shot the first time round, then you have an opportunity to go again. If you never attempt to take the shot then you will never know what might have been. The opportunity that we get from doing the things in our career that make us feel uncomfortable are greater than not getting the result you desire. The sting of failure maybe something that you want to avoid. However the sting of failure is temporary, but the data is invaluable for helping you to decide how you can improve or make a judgement about your next steps.

3 What if it feels icky or hard?

The brain works hard to try and keep us safe. It is likely that when you attempt to think about or to do something that you're afraid to do you feel emotions that may try and dissuade you from even attempting that career goal. Those feelings are real and can be very powerful. In order for you to overcome those feelings you will need to deploy tools, tactics and strategies that allow you to get beyond those feelings. This could include breathing techniques, mindfulness, meditation and seeking out professional support. Having a strong reason WHY you are committed to taking action, seeking support and a willingness to be courageous in your journey to growth will serve you.
