Happy Monday!
This past week was so successful with the 7 day challenge. Thank you to everyone who joined in on a week of meditating, plant based meals, and creating awareness in reducing environmental toxin exposure!
There are so many factors that contribute to overall wellness. I just did an amazing instagram live this week and was interviewed on my thoughts surrounding this very topic.
I often find in my practice that many people are eating healthy, exercising, and doing all the "right" things but still don't feel their most optimal.
This is where reducing your toxic burden becomes a key component in your health journey. Many of these toxins found in our environment impact our enzymes, mitochondria, hormones, gut health, brain, nerves and liver.
A good place to start is reducing them in your home and focusing on eating fiber rich foods! My website shop has a bunch of different options for making these toxin free switches.
This is why I wanted to share my sweet potato toast recipe with you!
Sweet potatoes are high in butyrate: this is a compound that helps heal our gut by reducing dysbiosis and sealing the gut lining.
We know gut health is KING to overall health! If our gut isn't happy, most likely other areas of our health aren't optimal either. Including foods high in butyrate are very helpful for healing our gut.
I also like to top my toast with seeds. Here's why:
- Seeds are high in Omega 3's: these promote the growth of beneficial microbes in our gut and ENHANCE microbial diversity! In other words, producing more beneficial bacteria in our colon which in turn fights inflammation.
- Omega 3's also reduce bacterial endotoxin release! These seeds contain so many nutrients that also help support our body's detoxication organs to filter out these environmental toxins.
Some of the benefits of seeds:
- Flax seeds: contain lignan's that protect against hormonal cancers
- Chia: very high in omega 3's
- Pumpkin seeds: contain magnesium, an essential nutrient for many bodily functions including supporting the liver in detoxification
RECIPE:
Take one large sweet potato and slice them length wise into 1/4- 1/2 inch slabs. Place these onto a stainless steel baking sheet and bake for about 15 minutes at 350F.
Let them cool completely. Top with nut butter, seeds, and fruit of choice.
Enjoy!
Health & happiness,
Stephanie
