Could your gut symptoms be caused from this?

We have enzymes that get secreted along our GI tract which help our body to break down food.

These digestive enzymes break down the food we eat, therefore allowing us to absorb more nutrients!

Some common symptoms of digestive enzyme insufficiency:

  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating
  • Abdominal pain/cramping
  • Floating stools
  • Nausea
  • Fatigue

Throughout the digestive process, we have different mechanisms in which our body is secreting these enzymes!

Our saliva, our stomach, and our pancreas all produce different enzymes. All of these different enzymes break down different types of foods: carbohydrates, fats, and protein.

If we aren’t properly breaking down food, we experience the above symptoms!

So how do we promote better digestive enzyme function?

1️⃣ Before you start eating, take a moment to look at your food and pause! This stimulates your brain to turn on and understand that digestion is about to take place, which allows our salivary glands to start producing enzymes to break down carbohydrates.

This also goes for chewing your food thoroughly- don’t be in a rush!

2️⃣ Eat fermented foods: that process of fermentation actually activates digestive enzymes!

If you aren’t eating much fermented foods, start slow. About 1 spoonful per day.

3️⃣ Eat enzyme rich foods!

  • Papaya
  • Pineapples
  • Mangoes
  • Honey
  • Avocados
  • Bananas
  • Kiwi

.. even oats!

Digestive enzymes can also be imapired if we are dealing with leaky gut, bacterial overgrowth, or an underlying infection (ie H Pylori).
