The federal cosmetics law has FINALLY been updated.

What does this mean?

First, to provide some context, this has not been updated since 1938.

Our cosmetics are a common source of heavy metals, fragrances, endocrine disrupting chemicals and more. And even though we are putting on our skin, it can still be absorbed and make its way to our bloodstream!

How this happens: it bypasses something called first pass metabolism. So instead of going through our GI tract and liver to get excreted out, it actually gets absorbed into systemic circulation!!

One of the many reasons I don’t just focus on toxins in foods are because of these reasons.Toxic burden symptoms can be a result of what we put on our body.

So what is changing with this new bill that has been passed: Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act of 2022 (MOCRA)?

• Known fragrance allergens are required to be disclosed
• The FDA will actually be able to recall any products that have health implications
• PFAS is now in review for the use and safety of it in our products by the FDA

We are moving in the right direction!
