Tips for when you are sick

Hi there,

Lately it seems like the entire world is sick! This is definitely that time of year most people are experiencing some form of feeling "off" or under the weather.

I was recently sick as well. We are all going to get sick no matter how healthy our lifestyle is. But, we can control supporting our bodies to flush out whatever we are dealing with!

Below are some of the thing I implement when I'm feeling off:

Upping my herbs and spices game

These are the powerhouse of the plant kingdom. They're packed with many nutrients that help aid in creating a powerful anti inflammatory effect in our body. I especially love focusing on turmeric and finding different ways to add in to my daily routine.

Focus on foods with anti viral properties

  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Elderberry
  • Fermented foods
  • Garlic

I rotate through these weekly even when I'm not sick. But when I'm feeling off, I will include these daily.

Walking

Depending on how unwell you're feeling, you may not feel up for it. But if your body allows, try to go for a mini walk every hour. This helps to get our body's lymphatic system moving.

Our lymph is part of our body's immune system. It's essentially a "sewage" system, helping to move unwanted toxins and viruses from our body. The only way this can function properly is with movement. It does not like when we are stationary for too long!

Add colorful plants to your meals

The flavonoids in plants are what gives them their color. Each color has various health benefits and are full of antioxidants!

Antioxidants are super protective to the cells in our body and really help to boost our immune system.

Grounding

This is a hugely underrated form of healing, and it's so easy. It's done by standing on the earth's surface with your bare feet. Studies show this reduces pain and inflammation in the body.

The earth provides us with a vast array of electrons. When we ground, we become an extension of the earth's electrical system. We are literally absorbing free electrons from the earth which then creates an electrical shift throughout our whole body and normalizes function.

Try doing this for 15 minutes and notice how much better you feel after.

Hydration + electrolytes

The human body is made up of mostly water. And many of our body's physiologic functions require water to function properly!

Adequate hydration also supports our kidneys and really helps to flush out unwanted toxins in our body.

Make sure you are drinking water that is filtering out contaminants found in your water supply! Our tap water contains over 200 contaminants: antibiotics, heavy metals, fluoride, PFAS.. to name a few.

My favorite countertop water system: Berkey. Use code DRPEACOCK for 10% off.

Adding electrolytes to your water is a great way to support your body's healing processes. Coconut water with a pinch of salt really does the trick.

My favorite electrolyte powder: Re-Lyte. Use code DRPEACOCK for 10% off.

Other ways I support my body:

My favorite and last way I love to support my body is through sauna use. Using an infrared sauna allows our body to fight inflammation and flush out toxins through our sweat.

Other benefits of sauna use:

  • Improves lipid profile
  • improves inflammatory markers such as CRP and ESR
  • Improves cholesterol: lowers total and LDL-C while increasing HDL
  • Healthy blood pressure
  • Improves blood flow and circulation
  • Supports immune system

My favorite sauna in Sunlighten because they don't use any toxic glues in their manufacturing and are low EMF. Use code DRPEACOCK for $100 off and free shipping.
