What to do if you don't want to disappoint Coach
Nov 28, 2022 12:06 pm
Good Monday Morning,
I hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving weekend. I had the pleasure of seeing my Bills win twice in Detroit. First against the Browns eight days ago as the snow storm prevented the game from being played in Buffalo. Then again on Thanksgiving with my oldest son for the traditional Lions holiday game.
Me at the press conference after the Browns game,
"We are coming back in 5 days and we will win again!"
... and we did!
But as we move from Thanksgiving to the Christmas season, I want to say I am so grateful for you. For your trust. For your enthusiasm. For your passion.
I appreciate you inviting me into your life and sharing your journey towards excellence.
I look forward to what we will do together in the days ahead,
Dr. Eddie

"I don't want to disappoint Coach"
"I don't want to disappoint my coach" is a fear that can fuel our performance anxiety.
And it makes sense. The truth is that Coach π₯π°π¦π΄ have high expectations of you. And Coach πͺπ΄ depending on you. And you do care about his/her opinion.
But rather than feeling alone in this pressure, remember that you share the same goal. Coach doesn't want to disappoint you either! You are in this together.
You are on the same side, both wanting to win, both giving full effort.
You aren't alone.
It isn't just on you.
It takes a team.
We > Me

Not wanting to disappoint your coach is a very understandable anxiety. S/he is important to you.
So what is the very best way to meet their expectations?
Do your job.
ππ°π΅ wanting to disappoint is a huge distraction from what you π₯π° want to do.
If success is the goal, you must focus on the process.
If you want to win, you must focus on your job moment to moment.
So use this anxiety as a red flag. A signal that when you don't want to disappoint your coach, refocus on what you do need to do to avoid that dreaded outcome.
When nervous, ask yourself, "What's my job?"
