Hey there,

What a spring it's been. We couldn't be more grateful. This spring brought out some of the most enthusiastic paddlers, first-timers, and returning families we've seen—and every single trip on the Shenandoah reminded us why Downriver has been doing this for over 50 years. Thank you for being part of it.

Summer is just getting started

June through August is when the river truly comes alive—warm days, clear mountain water, and that perfect current that makes a float feel like the best couple of hours you've spent all year. Whether you're planning a family weekend, a group outing, or just a solo escape from the city, we've got the boats, the shuttle, and the Shenandoah scenery to make it happen.

We've been busy this off-season.

We used the quieter months to make some real improvements — and we're excited for you to see them:

New Adventures

This year we're adding some exciting new activities to our menu, including guided float & hike trips, dedicated hiking trips, and climbing and rappelling trips. See what we have to offer here. And don't forget—we also have bikes available to rent and ride through the amazing trails at Shenandoah River State Park.

Tubing Starts Soon

As soon as we get a steady combined water and air temperature of 150 degrees, we launch tubes! There is no better way to hang with friends and family than a slow relaxing float on a tube down our stretch of river. We are actually in the running to be voted one of the best tubing destinations in the US. You can help us get there by casting your vote here.

Reserve Your Campsite at Golden Rock

We're happy to announce that if you're joining one of our trips that includes camping, you can now reserve your preferred site at Golden Rock Campground. This was one of our most requested features last year, and we're excited to roll it out for the new season!

When you sign up online for our 2-day or "1st Leg and Camp" trips, you'll pick your boats and then select your campsite location.

If you haven't checked out our overnight trips yet—what are you waiting for?

Golden Rock Campground is also available for camping even if you're not getting on the river (whenever spots are open that aren't reserved for river trip guests). The best times to find availability are early and late season, as well as weekdays during the summer. Call or email our shop to make a camp site reservation.

Corporate Retreats and Team Building

Downriver Canoe Company is launching corporate retreats! Imagine your team bonding, problem-solving, and recharging together on the scenic Shenandoah River, surrounded by mountain views and fresh air. We're crafting unique experiences designed for connection, creativity, and a little adventure—far beyond the boardroom. Want a sneak peek or to be first in line? Reach out for details at [email protected].
