Podcasts in the time of Mythopoetics

Warm greetings and Happy Imbolc,

Snowdrops and crocuses burst from the earth and the promise of spring is carried in the birdsong.

As I return from Marrakesh, I've found myself finally inspired release a new podcast episode....after a 9 month hiatus!

It features some highlights from my time at the Marrakech International Storytelling Festival and two short stories. The tales feature 'Djoha', the wise fool popular across the Arab world and beyond.

The first featured story is one I told to the delight of primary school pupils in the Atlas Mountains. The second is a classic, amusing yet ripe with meaning. They are fun stories and easy to pick and pass on.

Can you recommend any inspiring podcasts?

As I ponder podcasting again, I'm compiling a list of my favourite shows relating to:

Storytelling, Mythopoetics, Creativity, Folklore, Culture making, Writing, Animism etc.

I wonder if you have any podcasts on these topics that you'd recommend?

I'd love to build my list a bit and share further down the line.

This week I've listened to:

'Into the Borderlands' & 'Northern Traditions' podcast, which each have a Scandinavian, Norse myth flavour.

Tomorrow I'll be getting interviewed for the 'Fair Folk Podcast', by Danica Boyce, which also has a specialism on northern lore, culture and song...and is also definitely worth checking out.

I’d love to hear some report of the best podcasts you find! But I’ll add my recommendation: In A Certain Kingdom by Nicholas Kotar a fantasy author and Orthodox deacon. He has strong Russian culture roots and his podcast retells old Slavic fairy tales. It’s the first podcast that introduced me to an interest in old stories and although I’m not of his faith, I appreciated his discussion of the story meanings that introduced me to a way of seeing meaning amid some really things in the old stories. Here’s his episode of a story that sounds a lot like Cinderella. I really like this version. https://www.ancientfaith.com/podcasts/certainkingdom/vasilissa_the_beautiful/ Good luck! And I just added you podcast to the queue!
