Remebrance and Hearth Fires
May 07, 2024 7:48 am
Greetings all,
I hope this finds you well.
Amidst the tidal wave of logistical prep thatI'm learning to surf ahead of my BC tour, I'm delighted to have a couple of storytelling offerings this week. Online and in person.
Songs and Stories of Scotland
Starting tonight (Tuesday May 7th) is the latest offering from 'Weaving Remembrance'. It brings together a range of storytellers and song keepers from across Scotland, with a Gaelic language bonus session.
I help launch the course with a session on 'The power of the Word and Faery Lore', this very evening. It's a belter of a module, that I feel sets the tone nicely for what comes afterwards.
This year I'm delighted to see some of my favourite, Scottish based storytellers alongside me.
Hearth Fire Sessions
This Thursday in Edinburgh I will also be hosting and telling stories at the second Hearth Fire Session.
In March we had a gorgeous evening, weaving together story, song, soundscape and dance. The night carries the spirit of the ceilidh and organic nature of classic story gatherings, yet explores how a touch of curation can make the evening really sing.
This Thursday, we will literally be weaving, as local basket maker Katie Warner will be crafting on stage, offering a more meditative aesthetic. Storytelling legend and travelling culture custodian Jess Smith will be sharing stories and ballads, and Sam Gillespie will be providing lush soundscapes and finely crafted songs.
I'm expecting a special night again.
Scottish Tales for Telling
The stories are recorded, mastered, and sounding great!
I'm currently navigating the myriad of 'almost' suitable digital options for sharing them more widely.
This will be concluded in the coming days and sent out to all kickstarter supporters. If that's you, thanks for your patience!
BC Tour
Tickets are selling! Yurts and church halls are filling up. Great conversations are starting. Next week I'll be on the Pacific rim!
I'm getting excited.
Maybe I'll see you in person or online in these coming months.
Wishing you Beltane blessings
Dougie
