They say you should write what you know about, which is partially why my Magic of Nasci series takes place in Oregon forests. I've been living in Eugene for 15 years now, and the city is a jumping point for all sorts of great wilderness spots. I absolutely adore the Oregon Coast, which is why many of Ina's adventures take place there.
But I also do enjoy the more forested regions inland toward central Oregon. That's why our family took a day trip to beautiful Crater Lake, the state's most famous national park. My kids were too young to remember our previous trip out here, so they marveled at the caldera's deep blue waters. We hiked to the Discovery Point trail. I took a great panning video of the lake's famous Wizard Island.

Because we had young kids in tow, we weren't able to do some of the other hiking trails around the South Rim, but I hope to come back in a few years and tackle those as well. I feel extremely lucky to be within a 3-hour drive of this geological wonder.
You've probably already done this when you signed up for the newsletter, but if you haven't, you can also download the free story Wizard Island and read about one of Ina's early adventures that takes place at Crater Lake.
As always, you can reach me at [email protected]. Feel free to drop me a line to talk about forests or books!
End of Summer Reading List
The First Kat Drummond Collection is an amazing deal of four books plus bonus content. Kat Drummond is a part-time monster hunter in South Africa, and this extremely well-written series is action-packed to the gills.
Excalibur Rises is a free retelling of the Arthurian legend. When Vivian, the Lady of the Lake, is asked by Merlin to help him obtain a powerful sword for the soon-to-be King Arthur, she leaves Avalon to find the Forger of Light. But he has a reputation and she fears the cost for such a sword will be high.
Dawn of a Demon is a $0.99 book about a half-cat, half-spider shifter (you don't see that every day!). Hilarious and heartwarming, the NightFly series follows Zulli and her teammates on an epic adventure as they set out to stop a magical mind-warping drug from ravaging the city.
Until next time, happy adventuring!
