Here in Oregon, the school year bleeds into the middle of June, so it seems like it takes forever for summer to start. Now that it's here, though, my family has plans to hit the beach, visit family out of state, and just plain enjoy the sunshine (in between writing the last book of my upcoming new urban fantasy series, of course).
It is difficult not to take a spectular sunset picture on the Oregon Coast, as evidenced by my amateur picture in Lincoln City last year.
Of course, going to the beach means you need good beach reads. I've already got a mix of some favorite Ilona Andrews books on my Kindle, but I've also downloaded a few new Lindsay Buroker and Annette Marie novels that I've been eager to read.
For those of you who want to add a little nature magic to your reading lists, I've got a few free surprises for you. For the first time, I'm releasing for free a short story I wrote last year for a summer fantasy anthology. Seeking Solstice takes place between books 2 and 3 of the Magic of Nasci series, where Ina has met game warden Vincent Garcia, but is still very much an eyas-in-training. There are no spoilers, however, so you don't need any knowledge of the series to enjoy this seasonal slice of Oregon magic.
I've also put Chasing Lightning, the first full-length Magic of Nasci book, for free on Amazon in all countries, so if you or your reader friends haven't had a chance to delve into the series, now's definitely the time.
What's on your summer reading list? Have a book to recommend? I recently read Man-Eaters of Kumaon by Jim Corbett based on a fan recommendation, and it was fascinating. Send me a line at [email protected].
More Summer Shenanigans
Dragondale Academy is a free magic academy novella. Growing up in foster care wasn't easy, but Ava left it all that behind to study at the Dragondale Academy of Druidic Magic. An outcast herself, she finds herself drawn to Dardyr, a dragon with a dark past.
Spliced is a free sci-fi adventure. For shapeshifting Tyler, robbing a bank is as easy as transforming into a branch manager. But can he evade the OCEI, a secret organization with the mission to subdue "enhanced" individuals like himself?
Heroes of Darkness is a litRPG collection with 800+ pages of action and adventure. Once called the S Ranked God of Death, Seraph has been cast into the past, reincarnated into his younger self. Now Seraph must learn there's more to power than being a tyrant if humanity is to survive the coming of Aeon.
Until next time, happy adventuring!
