I'm the mother of two children, my first daughter being 10 years old and already entering the smart-mouth phase of her life. To be fair, this is probably just the Mother's Curse (i.e. that your own children act just like you did when you were little) bearing itself out, but you get my drift. Raising kids takes a toll on parents, and even though I consider my kids generally well behaved, it's a lot of work.
But it's the best job I've ever had. Picture shows Halloween as Minecraft Ender Dragon and Cosmic Narwhal.
Now imagine what would happen if you threw magic into the adolescent mix. Once I began pondering this scenario last year, I couldn't stop thinking about how the story would unfold for a parent. I've been writing furiously ever since.
A lot of you have been asking me what I've been working on, and I'm finally ready to share. I'm writing a 4-book series about a mother and daughter pair who discover a world of hidden magic in their everyday mundane lives. Regan, the teenage daughter, is a very smart, capable young woman who's coming into her own, but the real star of the series is Melissa, a practical (and sarcastic) single mom. There is a lot of witty banter between mother and daughter, but they truly love each other. I've kept teen angst down to a minimum.
I already have 3 of the 4 books written in rough draft form. As part of my writing process, I finish all the books in an arc first and then edit them together, so readers enjoy one seamless story. That means I still need to write Book 4 before I will consider releasing Book 1. I believe this creates the absolute best stories I can write, but that also means I'm probably looking at late 2022 for my next new book release.
In the meantime, you can always help make my stories better. How do you think you'd react if a teenager you knew suddenly developed magic? What do you think of my other magical book series? Send me an email at [email protected] to discuss my fantasy books at any time! I love hearing from readers because they make me a better writer.

Dawn of Destiny is a 0.99 modern Arthurian fantasy book. Three years ago Iris and Archie Pender's parents died in a brutal attack, but on the anniversary of their death, their house is attacked by dreadful creatures, and a strange man with a sword comes to their rescue.
Scorpion Dawn is a steampunk adventure with a dash of dangerous romance. Miranda Fletcher lives in a glittering world of aeronauts and artists, dance cards and dandies, but terror lurks outside the city walls. The countryside is infested with hungry abominations called the Unseen, and a single crack in the capital’s magical defenses invites disaster and death.
Until next time, happy adventuring!
