Last week really stressed me out, and as someone who loves books, I coped by cracking open a "comfort read." Maybe you have these as well: favorite books that you devour from cover to cover when you need a pick-me-up. Perhaps they evoke nostalgia or just a temporary escape from whatever's going in real life. You can read it one hundred times and never get bored with it. It's just a part of your DNA at this point.
So I read one of my all-time favorites, Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. My friend recommended this book to me a few months before the Miyasaki movie came out, and I simply fell in love. It's got everything that I love: a quirky protagonist, wonderful side characters who steal scenes, a subtle but well-crafted romance, and unexpected twists that I never saw coming but are expertly weaved into the details. It's appropriate for teenagers on up, and it gives me all the good feels whenever I need a reality break.
And hilariously flawed Howl in the book tromps pretty boy movie Howl any day of the week.
