Greetings from Oregon! I know a lot of my readers have been dealing with extreme winter weather these last few weeks. Our area experienced an ice storm that locked us in our houses for five days, and then when things started to melt, almost 20% of homes lost power due to fallen trees and power lines. Our house thankfully kept the lights on throughout the entire ordeal, but we did see a transformer blow in our neighborhood that lit the sky up a surreal green color!
Plus our maple trees looked like this for five days. They're doing much better now after the thaw.
Not everybody came out so lucky, though. South of town, there's a wonderful wildlife hospital called the Cascades Raptor Center. They rehabilitate and care for birds of prey from all over the world. During the ice storm, they suffered $30,000 worth of damage to their bird aviaries due to tree damage. Please consider donating to their wonderful cause and help them recover. As an added bonus, I wrote a free what-if story that involves Gabriel helping find one of their birds, Lorax the great horned owl, who initially got lost in the storm.
If you want to help all the birds at Cascade Raptor Center like Gabriel, please click here to donate.
I'm wishing the folks at the Cascade Raptor Center and everyone worldwide that has been affected by adverse weather a swift recovery!
