I am a sucker for superhero stories, and I fall hardest for the X-Men. I grew up on the classic 90s cartoon, which later got me hooked on the comics. I love the team dynamic with diverse powers that fight for the very people who fear them. Add onto that characters with epic backstories that make you sometimes even root for the villains, and it's a recipe for fantastic action and adventure.
So imagine my delight when I ran across this high-quality fan movie about Gamibt. I have to confess that the Ragin' Cajun is not my X-Man of choice. He's usually a little too arrogant for me, plus he has a history of dissin' my Blue Elf Nightcrawler. Still, this 20-minute story about him running into a high-stakes poker game is superb. Gambit has just enough of his comics-based costume to be recognizable without looking too goofy. The production on this film could easily land this on a paid streaming service like Netflix. And another famous X-Man makes an appearance halfway through (I won't spoil who). It really says a lot that I enjoyed this film even though it stars Gambit.
Feel free to watch for yourself. WARNING: Rated R for swearing and violence. If the Deadpool movies' language and fight scenes are too much for your tastes, you'll want to skip this one.
