Have you ever started reading an author, or stories that you never thought you would be interested in? I did that a while ago. And its not that I never thought I would be interested in this author... Its more that looking at the book covers, reading the synopsis of those book wouldn't have grabbed me.
But
I was listening to a podcast, this was maybe 3 years ago. I think it was T.W.I.T (This week in tech with Leo Laporte) He was always pimping Audible affiliate links (that is an affiliate link btw). There was an audiobook that I wanted to listen too and I figured if I get the audible deal he advertised, listened to the book I wanted and cancel after a month. It would've paid for itself.
So, I listened to that book then started looking for more as I had a credit. I was recommended the book 14 by Peter Clines.
Let me tell you...
I was so into that book. The story was fun and interesting and while the book cover and blurb may not have grabbed me without the recommendation... The story ended up being right up my alley as far as interest. Quirky scifi, tons of characters... That's what I like... What I like to write as well. But the book isn't what grabbed me... it was the narrator.
That book was narrated by Ray Porter.
I loved his narration so much that my next several audiobooks were books I found by searching him and not the actual authors that wrote them. He narrated a lot of Peter Clines books and I think Ive listened to all of them, then I found another sci-fi series by Dennis E. Taylor that I fell in love with, have the next installment pre-ordered already (by the way, click here if you haven't already, pre-order my next book)
I never thought I would have a favorite narrator to the point where when I open audible, I look for the narrator and not always a book title or author.
