 Windows

Through the looking glass.

Once you have your plan, the question becomes when to order windows. If you order windows before construction starts it will be critical that they are built exactly to plan so that the windows will fit. If you decide to wait until the structure is under roof there will be lag time of up to six months for window delivery if they are custom.

We develop our plans so that windows can be ordered well in advance of construction. Diligence in construction management assures everything will fit.

A major part of your due diligence will be going over the window contract so there are no surprises at the end. This includes small items that often fall through the cracks. If you have done your homework, then you can begin building while the windows are manufactured. Remember if your building is concrete or block the cost of making changes later is extremely expensive.

When your new windows are delivered, if they are large and not standard, plan to have a crane on site to unload and install them. If you are doing a multi-story your challenges will be a little more difficult. Continuity from the inside looking out is as important as the outside visual. Now that you have watched a difficult installation, step back and see if everything matches what you planned.

I have attached pictures that will give you an idea of the steps involved. Next time we're going to talk about electrical and what to expect.

Stay tuned, there's a lot more to come,

Dik Muller
