Habit Stacking 101 — Making Healthy Changes Stick

Oct 22, 2025 6:01 pm

Hello ,

Have you ever set out to build a new habit, only to lose steam after a few days? You’re not alone. The truth is, creating habits that last isn’t about willpower—it’s about strategy.

One of my favorite strategies is called habit stacking.

✨ What Is Habit Stacking?

Habit stacking is linking a new habit you want to build with an existing habit you already do without thinking. This makes it easier for your brain to “remember” and stay consistent.

Think of it like this:

  • Existing habit: Brushing your teeth in the morning.
  • New habit: Taking your medication right after brushing.

By tying the new action to something that’s already automatic, you set yourself up for success.

🩺 Habit Stacking for Better Health

Here are some real-life examples (especially helpful for diabetes care):

  • After pouring your morning coffee, check your fasting blood sugar.
  • After putting on your walking shoes, step outside for 5 minutes.
  • After serving your plate, add a veggie before you sit down.

✅ Try This Today

  1. Pick one habit you already do every day (like brushing your teeth, eating lunch, or making coffee).
  2. Decide on a small, healthy habit you’d like to add (like drinking a glass of water or checking your glucose).
  3. Pair them together—then repeat daily.

Small steps add up—and before long, they’ll feel natural!

💌 This Week’s Challenge:

Choose one new habit you want to build and stack it with something you already do. Write it down and stick it on your fridge as a reminder!

Cheering you on,
