Jul 16, 2024 9:19 am

Hi, Teacher Luke here πŸ‘‹

I'm a bit late with this news, but better late than never, right? πŸ˜‰

Since July 1st, 2024, the Duolingo English Test score report has changedβ€”for the better!

And the DET team has finally clarified how they calculate your scores, which had been a bit of a mystery until now!

Here's everything you need to know πŸ‘‡

βœ… What's New in the Score Report?

The main update is that you will now receive individual subscores for speaking, writing, reading, and listening, in addition to the integrated subscores for Production, Conversation, Literacy, and Comprehension.

This is what your new scorecard will look like.

This is a good change because having these subscores allows you to identify specific areas to focus on to improve your overall score.

🧐 How Is Your Score Calculated?

In the past, the way your score was calculated was a bit of a mystery.

But not anymore! πŸ₯³

Here is how Duolingo calculates your subscores and overall score.

1. Integrated Subscores

Your scores for Literacy, Comprehension, Conversation, and Production are calculated by averaging the two individual subscores they comprise.

For example:

(Speaking Score + Writing Score) / 2 = Production Subscore

  • Speaking 130 + Writing 100 = Production Subscore 115

2. Overall Score

Your overall score is an average of the individual subscores, rounded to the nearest five.

Like this:

(Speaking + Writing + Reading + Listening) / 4 = Overall Score

  • Speaking 130 + Writing 100 + Reading 135 + Listening 145 = Overall Score 130

Even though the score report has changed, the test format remains the same, so you don't need to worry about seeing any new question types.

Hopefully this has helped you understand the DET better.
