Hi, Teacher Luke here! 👋
Let me share one powerful sentence structure that can instantly make your writing and speaking sound more advanced — and boost your Duolingo English Test score. 🎯
It’s called a contrast clause, and it’s one of the easiest ways to use complex grammar.
Here are three examples of contrast clauses:
👉 Although...
Although roads are important for economic development, investing in public transport offers more long-term benefits.
👉 Even though...
Even though people enjoy the freedom of driving, public transport reduces traffic and pollution.
👉 Despite...
Despite the higher upfront cost, train systems are more sustainable than expanding roads.
These structures help you express more sophisticated ideas that Duolingo loves to see!
The best part?
You can use this structure in almost any DET writing or speaking question — and if you use it correctly, it can give your score a real boost.
