Feb 24, 2025 12:27 am

Hey, Teacher Luke here! 👋

Ever looked at a photo description question on the Duolingo English Test and thought, "What do I even say?" 😅

You’re not alone!

One of the biggest challenges test-takers face is finding the right vocabulary to describe what they see.

But once you have the right vocabulary and phrases, it becomes so much easier! 😮‍💨

That’s exactly what we’re working on in today’s DET Ready VIP lesson at 2 PM (UK time)!

We’ll go over the top vocabulary for the main photo types on the DET and practice using them in real answers.

You are going to learn vocab for the 3 main photo types 👇

  1. Nature: horizon, twilight, clear blue sky
  2. Cities: historic district, city skyline, tree-lined streets
  3. People: engaged in conversation, deep in thought, beaming with joy

Knowing these kinds of words helps you:

✅ Give more natural, high-scoring answers

Avoid hesitation and speak smoothly

Sound confident and fluent

And the best part? You’ll get to practice these words in real answers and get my feedback live!

Join me at 2 PM UK time!
