I’ve got an important Duolingo English Test update for you — something small, but important for test day.

The DET has added a new Ear Scan step before you start your official test.

Don’t worry — it only takes 1–2 minutes, and it’s super easy once you know what to do.

This quick scan helps the DET team confirm you’re not wearing earbuds.

Here’s how it works 👇

Here’s what you’ll do on test day:

1. Open the DET desktop app and sign in
2. Go through the setup steps until you see “Scan your ears”
3. When prompted, point your phone camera at one ear — you’ll see it on your computer screen
4. Make sure your ear is centered in the frame
5. Then hold your phone close to your ear, like you’re talking on the phone
6. Repeat the same two steps for your other ear

That’s it — once both scans are done, you continue with the setup and start your test normally 👍

It’s quick, simple, and nothing to stress about. I just wanted you to know ahead of time so you’re fully prepared.
