Well, here we are on the countdown to Christmas and the end of 2023!

I see a lot of people reflecting on this past year and their achievements but I've been so incredibly busy preparing to host my hubby's family this Christmas and finalising Everlasting Love, I've barely had time to think.

As you know, it's been a tough year for me personally and I can't say I published a tonne of books or wrote a million words but I made it to the end of the year and I'll take that as a win.

And even though I only published one novella (Enemy Kisses) this year and am on the cusp of publishing a full-length novel in January, I can hold my hand over my heart with pride for both works. The Falling for the Enemy anthology raised a total of $12,100 which was donated to the Keith Milano Memorial Fund for Suicide Prevention. And Everlasting Love is definitely my best work to date.

I'm always proud of each book that I write and feel that I've grown as a writer, which is all I can strive to do. So, in that sense, I think I achieved a lot this year.

I've been busy working behind the scenes to ensure Everlasting Love is perfect for you. The editing process is a long and involved one and I am pedantic about getting it right to ensure you receive a quality book.

As I was reading through, I came across this scene and I thought I'd share it with you. It's one of several pivotal moments ...

Opening the door, I quietly step inside Vi’s room. She raises her head and her eyes latch onto me. Her shoulders drop slightly and a soft smile touches her lips. Fuck, she’s so damn gorgeous. She pulls back the covers on the empty side of the bed and pats it, welcoming me without question or recourse.

It’s then I pause.

She waits patiently but I can tell she’s straining to keep her smile in place. I didn’t expect her to be awake. I thought I’d sneak in here and wake her with my tongue on her pussy.

“Do you want to come in?”

“Why are you awake?”

One smooth shoulder rises and falls. “Couldn’t sleep. You?”

“Couldn’t sleep, but that’s nothing new for me.” I take a few steps to her bed and climb in.

She twists her body so she’s facing me and crosses her legs. “Why do you have so much trouble sleeping?”

Resting my hand on her smooth thigh, I consider my answer. If I’m truly going to have something real, something worthwhile and long-lasting, I need to be truthful. “My time away left me with some deep trauma. I have night terrors some nights and even when I don’t, my body doesn’t seem to be able to stay asleep. It’s always on high alert. It’s fucking exhausting.” I rub my hand down my face, then chance a look at hers. She laces her fingers through mine but she’s not looking at me like I’m broken. “I’m so tired, Violet.”

Her eyes flick between mine. “So lay beside me and sleep. I’ll watch over you. I promise I won’t let anything happen.” She leans forward and presses the gentlest of kisses against my lips and I snap my hand up to tangle in her hair to hold her mouth to mine.

Her words. So fucking simple. But so damn beautiful.

Her offer to protect me does something to the deepest parts of me. It stitches together a small part of my broken soul and I deepen the kiss. Before I realize it, I’ve laid her down and I’m climbing over her body, pinning her hands above her head. I kiss her in a way that I hope portrays what her words mean to me. Her promise to take care of me when it should always be the other way around. She wraps her legs around my ass, and I grind down on her mound, dry-humping her like a teenager. Sexy moans escape her lips and I greedily swallow them down, collecting them like they’re precious gems.
