I ticked an item off my bucket list! ✔️ 🎉

G'day, ,
Hello, hello!
What do you think of my new logo?
I felt like a change and I think a cinnamon roll is more fitting. As much as I love butterflies, I love my cinnamon roll book boyfriends more! 😉
I ticked an item off my bucket list last month, and I'm still pinching myself! I've always wanted to witness an Aurora event.
When we spent the month in Canada in 2024, we hoped to experience one, but missed out even though there was an event while we were in Canmore. (Now, I realise we probably should have taken photos—you live and learn.)
Anyway, we were enjoying our annual family holiday down south when I saw there was going to be an Aurora event. We had spent the day climbing over a ragged rocky outcrop on the coast and thought it would be the perfect place for our best chance to see the Aurora. Reports suggested that the event would be best seen to the south, one hour after sunset. So off we went, ensuring we were there in plenty of time to secure the perfect spot.
We sat and waited. And waited some more.
Then, we observed 'something' happening in the sky to the south, so I thought I'd take a photo. Of course, at night time, it's best to use a long exposure, and I'm not the best at keeping the camera still, but I did my best.
When I looked at the photo I'd taken, I was tickled pink. I'd finally captured the Aurora Australis!
I couldn't believe my eyes because the night sky looked the same as always, except for a slight glimmer.
I'm thrilled to share some of the photos I captured, ticking off a long-time bucket list item. How freaking amazing does it look? Aaaaaah! I still can't believe it.
Do you have anything on your bucket list you're hoping to achieve this year?
I've added more than 15,000 words to Nix and Abbi's story since I last wrote to you!
That's a HUGE win in my book.
Just when I was starting to think I should shelve their story for a while and work on something else, inspiration struck. Maybe it was the threat of focusing elsewhere that got my creative juices going? 🤣 Whatever it was, I'm not about to complain.
Here's a little teaser ...
I've also been working on Loving Summer. Each night I diligently read through a few chapters to tidy up the grammar and sentence structure to make it easier to read. I seemed to have had a love affair with an abundance of adjectives and adverbs. 🙄 I won't change any of the story itself; my only goal is to improve the readability of the book without losing the naivety of my debut.
The other project I've been working on was creating the graphic below. I think my books are often judged by their covers and potential readers think they're 'sweet' romance. So I thought it would be pertinent to dispel this myth and 'show' that my books do have the spice they're looking for.
What do you think?
I was surprised by Wicked Kisses. I was sure it had more spice than that. 🤣
Most of my month was spent reading my work to create the graphic I shared above. It's funny how I'd forgotten a LOT of details within my own stories. And I found myself giggling, choking up, getting teary, and falling in love with as well as rooting for my characters to find their HEA.
I really don't know what that says about me. 🙄 🤣
I'm always trying to learn how I can improve my stories, strengthen my characters, and add depth, so I signed up for an online class led by Elodie Hart. She was talking about how she builds her characters to ensure they stay true to who they are throughout the story. During the talk, she mentioned she started to introduce this new technique in book two, but more so in book three of her most recent series, so I picked it up to see what she was talking about in practice.
It's been no hardship reading this series. It is SUPER spicy and well written. The series revolves around Seraph, an organisation that connects wealthy CEOs with 'full-service' executive assistants who are incredibly intelligent and highly capable in the office and the bedroom. This series is seriously H-O-T!
And here's your template for this month! I hope you find all the best book boyfriends!
