June 15th: Get ready for some summer reading!

June 15, 2021
Where did the month go? I feel like I got nothing accomplished but I've stayed busy constantly! How has it been for you? Are things opening up and are you getting out more? Me? Dollywood (twice, once for the grandgirls and once just for hubby to ride the coasters), the Smoky Mountain Highland Games, a movie, and a couple of restaurants. I did try Walmart shopping for groceries. We have been using the online order & pickup service since Nov 2019. Well, after my last trip inside, we're going back to the online order & pickup. Much easier and less stress.
Writing? Not so much....sorry. That said, I am targeting 500 words a day for two weeks starting TODAY. Actually, not really today since we're on our second trip to Dollywood, so Friday. Um, no, Saturday. Okay, starting the 19th. No, too hard to remember. Starting June 20th.
Egad, let's try that again. On June 20th I commit to writing 500 words a day on my current WIP. On July 1st, I'll move that target up to 1000 words a day. From there, I will try to increase by 100 words a day until I reach 2000 a day average.
Phew! That made me tired.... I know what you're thinking. It's summer, there's too much to be out and about doing, playing, enjoying. Not for me. I am not a summer person. I dislike heat and hate humidity. I'll be inside with the A/C on, good time to write.
Anyone want to take odds on my success over the next month? I just calculated it, and if I write every day (based on the numbers above), by Jun 15th I should have written 28,000 words in my WIP. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Now on to the good stuff!

Wonderland Detective Agency Book 1
Dodo was dead. And there the matter should have rested.
At least for DS Elise Liddell.
Emotionally burnt out, she considers herself retired from police work.
By rights, it has nothing to do with her, but someone killed the poor man and, as Elise can resist everything except a good puzzle (and a shot of Blue Goblin vodka), here she is tangled up in a murder case.
When a petty thief hands himself into the Ministry of Witches Police Department, Elise’s ex-colleagues consider it an open and shut case.
She’s less convinced.
Revitalized by the investigation, she takes the suspect on as the first client of her new paranormal detective agency. What would this insignificant wretch have to gain by murdering the cantankerous old wizard? Elise knows full well, by uncovering the motive she can reveal the true killer.
But she forgets, in Tumble Town even the shadows are alive … and now someone or something is hunting her.

Murder In Season Cozy Mystery Prequel
Come rain or shine, injured cop Claire Beckett finds herself forced to solve a series of mysterious deaths in order to clear her name.
Weather Or Not is a bonus story and a prequel to the Murder In Season mysteries. Catriona West is a TV meteorologist or, as her boss says, ‘weather girl.’ She’s the best friend of Murder In Season main character, Detective Constable Claire Beckett.
Weather Or Not takes a look at two unbelievable days in Catriona’s life.
First, she has to make a split-second decision that could end up getting her fired from her dream job.
Next, she learns that her ex, Luke, has been arrested. Cat is tempted to let him rot in jail, but the thought of the hyper, nerdy storm-chaser behind bars for something he didn’t do sends her on the hunt for an alibi.
Even worse is the shocking news about her best friend, Claire.
Unlike the other books in the series, Weather Or Not doesn’t have a murder, but the non-stop action will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Alex Lightwood Mystery Prequel
All Alex wanted was a quiet vacation away from the stress of her photojournalism career. What better place to regain focus than in her teeny-tiny, boring hometown of Piney Ridge, Maryland, right? Not so much when Alex’s mother volunteers her to photograph the charity motorcycle ride for the Coastbusters.
When a small crash ends in an unexpected death, Alex finds herself in the center frame of a murder investigation. Can her photographs of the event provide a clue to find the culprit? Or will they land her in the darkroom for good?
Join Alex and her ride or die band of helpers, including her 80-going-on-18-year-old grandmother, as they focus their efforts on finding the killer.
This is a prequal novella to the Alex Lightwood Mystery Series.

Oh, I promised you a surprise, didn't I...here it is...a short scene from Roasts & Rumors, the prequel to my upcoming Red Line Coffee Mysteries.

Garrett Phillips tossed his backpack behind the counter. “You do realize how rare this is, all three of us here at the same time.”
Brett Davis and Stevie Williams laughed. The trio were all co-workers at the Jumpers Hole Fire Department. They’d known each other and worked together for more than a dozen years. Realizing they would need something to do in their off time, as well as post-retirement, they joined together and bought a small building in the town square and refurbished it to become the home for the Red Line Coffee Shop. They normally worked different shifts and two of them would be in the shop while the other was either sleeping or working.
“Rare as you turning down a chance to scuba dive, Flipper.”
Garrett thumbed his nose at Stevie, also known as Grizz for her tough demeanor when at the fire department.
“Let’s cut to it. We need to get the inventory done before we open.” As a lieutenant at work, Brett sometimes let that person take over in the shop.
“Hold your breath, Smokey. I need a cuppa before we start. We’ve got two hours before it’s time to open. Chill.” Garrett started making his morning Red Eye, a cup of brewed coffee topped off with a shot of espresso. “Anyone else?”
“I’ll take one of those,” Stevie held up her hand, then brushed her hair back and refastened her comb clip.
“I don’t know how you can drink that stuff. Tears my stomach up,” Brett grumbled and held up his travel cup. “I’ll stick to my chai tea.”
Stevie snickered. “Lightweight.”
“Leave Smokey alone. You know he’s a grouch anytime before oh seven hundred.” Garrett handed Stevie her coffee, then finished fixing his Red Eye. He took a sip. “Ahhh, nectar of the gods. Everyone ready?”
