It’s been a busy month, for sure. Stuck inside due to a combination of hot weather and rain, I am SOOO ready for fall. That’s my favorite season. What’s yours?
One thing I have realized this month. I have too many things going on and that’s a big reason why my writing has stalled. So I’ve tackled that in a couple different ways.
1] I dropped being an administrator/moderator in several Facebook groups. I was spending way too much time reading daily posts.
2] In my reader/fan group on Facebook, DB McNicol’s Hoot Troop, I dropped from twice daily scheduled posts to daily, in the afternoon. But then I added back in the morning post for three days a week. I will schedule these at least two weeks in advance.
3] I am changing my morning routine. I’ve found that my energy on the computer is flagging by 3-4 pm, so I will now get up and on the computer IN MY OFFICE (not on the sofa) before checking emails, reading Facebook, or playing games. I will write for 3-4 hours before indulging myself.
4] This is the biggie! I have two newsletters, McNicol Mysteries: Murderous Intentions & More, and this one, McNicol Cozies: Mischief & Misdemeanors. Between them it seemed liked I was putting out a weekly newsletter. Each issue takes me 1-2 days of work.
As of September, I have cut them both down to once a month. McNicol Mysteries: Murderous Intentions & More will now come out on the first of every month and McNicol Cozies: Mischief & Misdemeanors will now come out on the fifteenth of every month. In addition, the content of this newsletter will be reduced in content, you will see the results in the next issue will be out September 15th.
Now, just for fun (and in late celebration of National Dog Day), here is a photo of Cooper & Murphy when they were little and for comparison, now. In the top photo, Murphy (4 months) is on the left and Cooper (7 months) is on the right. In the bottom photo, Cooper is on the left and Murphy on the right. They are now 3 years old.
