May 15th: All it's done is RAIN!

May 15, 2021

I thought April brought showers but it's the middle of May and we've had a lot of rain here in middle Tennessee. We took our three grandgirls who were visiting from Maryland over to Pigeon Forge for a Dollywood visit. Rain? Yup! Thank goodness for the indoor pool. We still managed to have a good time, and yes, it took me several days to recoup from nine days of 6 year old, 12 year old, and 15 year old exuberance!

As this newsletter goes out, hubby and I are off the Maryville TN for the Smoky Mountain Highland Games. The weather looks good on Saturday with a possibility of rain on Sunday. Keeping my fingers crossed. Since I am Clan MacQuarrie and Clan Murray and am married to a Clan MacNicol, we should have a blast!

Our birdfeeders are humming with activity. It's hard to get good photos but we did snag a couple and you can see them HERE.

Sorry for not getting any writing done this month - funny how life gets in the way sometimes. I'm hoping to lock myself in my room next week and get back to Ventis & Victims. In the meantime, if you haven't already, you can get the prequel, Roasts & Rumors, for only $0.99 HERE.

Oh, and be sure to scroll all the way to the end for a little teaser surprise.

Prediction: Murder: The Fool

After returning to her hometown, inheriting her late cousin’s estate, and solving a mystery, Harper Kagel was ready for some rest and relaxation. When some friends from her Cold Case Club make plans to head to a nearby bed and breakfast, Harper looks forward to a few days in the lap of luxury. Promises of days lounging by the pool give way to sleuthing as the intrepid group takes on the challenge of finding a killer. Oh, I promised you a surprise, didn't I...here it is...a short scene from Roasts & Rumors, the prequel to my upcoming Red Line Coffee Mysteries.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Garrett Phillips tossed his backpack behind the counter. “You do realize how rare this is, all three of us here at the same time.”

Brett Davis and Stevie Williams laughed. The trio were all co-workers at the Jumpers Hole Fire Department. They’d known each other and worked together for more than a dozen years. Realizing they would need something to do in their off time, as well as post-retirement, they joined together and bought a small building in the town square and refurbished it to become the home for the Red Line Coffee Shop. They normally worked different shifts and two of them would be in the shop while the other was either sleeping or working.

“Rare as you turning down a chance to scuba dive, Flipper.”

Garrett thumbed his nose at Stevie, also known as Grizz for her tough demeanor when at the fire department.

“Let’s cut to it. We need to get the inventory done before we open.” As a lieutenant at work, Brett sometimes let that person take over in the shop.

“Hold your breath, Smokey. I need a cuppa before we start. We’ve got two hours before it’s time to open. Chill.” Garrett started making his morning Red Eye, a cup of brewed coffee topped off with a shot of espresso. “Anyone else?”

“I’ll take one of those,” Stevie held up her hand, then brushed her hair back and refastened her comb clip.

“I don’t know how you can drink that stuff. Tears my stomach up,” Brett grumbled and held up his travel cup. “I’ll stick to my chai tea.”

Stevie snickered. “Lightweight.”

“Leave Smokey alone. You know he’s a grouch anytime before oh seven hundred.” Garrett handed Stevie her coffee, then finished fixing his Red Eye. He took a sip. “Ahhh, nectar of the gods. Everyone ready?”
