An update from Day Zero

Hi

We had the pleasure of packing some brilliant veg into your boxes this week, it's right at this time of year where the number of lines that are grown in the UK increases again and it feels great to be able to provide goods that are grown closer to home. Having said that, the lack of warm days meant there was no kale available to us as the colder weather slowed its growth. I'm going to promise you warmer weather is coming soon though - you can blame me if it doesn't arrive.

If you have one of our long cardboard veg boxes and you can get it back to us before Thursday we'd really like that - we're really short of them which we use to pack the largest orders. Remember, if you're in Buxton you can give your empties back to our rider when he knocks on your door each week too.

New kombucha

Having tried both the ginger and cola kombucha from Suma that we've just had in, I can recommend both. They're both packed full of gut-friendly bacteria and taste great, so pick them up in store or add them to your online orders and see what you think.

Refilling In-store

We're on a mission to get more customers in store buying refill goods.

The fall in the refill trade right across the country is a concern at a time when plastic pollution is as big a problem as ever and when supermarkets are doing absolutely nothing to tackle the problem. Honestly, it really angers me that they've sat on this for years and continued to make big profits and use headline grabbing green tag lines that are out to persuade us that they're our friend. (900,000 tonnes of singles use plastic last year alone!)

I'd use far more expletives here and have a real rant about it, but I'm sure you get the point.

There are small ethical businesses like Day Zero who ACTUALLY care all over the country still, demonstrating what change can look like. Companies who care about making sure the people who pick the nuts we eat can afford to feed their own families. People running those businesses who want the less fortunate people around the world to have a better share of the wealth that's been stripped out of their homeland for decades by via huge multinational companies and supermarkets.

People who prioritise the environment by advocating for organic produce and support other companies who in turn are doing their bit to get better food into schools and poor communites in the UK.

All these things are connected to what we do here at Day Zero, and therefore, by association to you when you shop with us. We thank you if you're with us, and whatever you can do to support us we truly appreciate it. Simply by supporting us, you're a part of this change. It's awful to face big worldly issues and feel alone with it. Here though you'll find community and you are stepping up and supporting the change you already know you want to see. Do tell your friends and use this time to get refilling and awareness of plastic pollution back on the agenda.

OK, rant over for this week. Enjoy the sun when it returns and hit the button below to order.

Thanks for your support
