Imbolc Greetings from Day Zero
Feb 02, 2025 4:01 pm
Hi
We love to celebrate Imbolc, the time of year where the first signs of new life appear, with shoots peeping through the soil, catkins opening on the trees and early flowers like snowdrops emerging. Whilst there'll be cold weeks still to come, knowing that this is the traditional start of Spring and the daylight hours grow ever longer is uplifting, and we completely recommend tuning into these rythyms (as well as making sure you're still resting well).
In this newsletter we’d also like to give thanks to our wonderful team of volunteers. Our volunteers work alongside paid staff and are a crucial part of being able to reach our community with organic fruit and veg deliveries too. Over the last three years the way that these wonderful caring people have woven into what we do at Day Zero has meant we’ve been able to do the following.
- Maintained our position as a bricks and motor store on the High Street at a time where trading has been more difficult.
- Reached many more people with more organic fruit and veg.
- Continued to be able to offer paid employment to staff.
- Been able to give back to our local community with donations through charitable giving and through food donations to High Peak foodbank.
We’re going to keep our community spirit strong in the coming months and years with your support as customers and with the support of a hugely enthusiastic team of volunteers.
Community shops like ours really do need to be woven into the heart of every community where they exist.
All too often shops fall by the wayside because of the pressure to grow and also the challenges they have navigating economic and marketplace difficulties. I know that the heart of our success is the fact that we are a value & cause based business and that you all care enough about making conscious decisions as to where you shop.
That’s why this is another newsletter where I want you to feel a connection from us to you, know that we value you being here.
And at this time we’d like to reach out and ask for some more volunteer support please. I’ll speak personally and say that while I completely value what we do here that it can be very demanding and physically demanding to run a business with so many different aspects to it. There are a couple of days a week we’re having a little more help available to fill any gaps in demand would be really really so much appreciated. Finding a couple of people that can sometimes help on a Thursday morning with Veg Box packing is the main area but there are a couple of other opportunities through the week also.
I would definitely like reach even more people with our organic fruit and veg boxes. They’re so well loved, so nutritious and the quality is so good that more people deserve to be able to be connected with decent food. If we can grow (pun intended) this part of the business, then we can reach more people and we’ll also be able to get good food to people who really really struggle to access. So if you have some time for free on Thursday morning please do let us know.
Finally, a quick note on incoming blueberries. If you’d like some in your Veg Box this week just put a note on your order. These are the organic blueberries that are exclusively grown on a Spanish nature reserve and we are delighted to bring them back to you once again. If you’re a pick your own veg box customer, they’re available on our list for next week to pick right now.
Thank you for all your love and support. We truly appreciate each and everyone of you.
