The difference community makes!

Oct 19, 2025 5:41 pm

We’ve recently posted about the difficult trading conditions that we’re experiencing.

We wrote about community and our feeling that local people want businesses like us to succeed, and particularly for us as we’re bringing a service to the area which wouldn’t otherwise exist.

In helping to tackle problem of reducing plastic waste, of finding products from suppliers who are doing things differently and in sourcing the best organic produce around for our veg boxes we know we’ve got a thing going here that loads of you want to see succeed.

So it’s been pretty awful to see trade decline and to actually start to think about whether it’s worth it, but……

…..the response from you to our last post has been really helpful, heartwarming and really confirms what we needed to see. A genuine response has begun to happen and we want to thank those of you who have been in touch and those of you who have shopped with us since, old faces and new alike!

In terms of making the difference between a business who is struggling and one who is thriving, that sort of support is absolutely the difference. I can only really speak for Day Zero directly, but yeah, that’s absolutely what we need to see continue.

We want to plan to be around for ages yet and you’re given us much hope, thank you.

I really love the idea that in Buxton we have such a community of people who care. People who have got to know their favourite places to shop and the people who run those small businesses.

There are loads of lovely places in town, loads to choose from just at our end of town and we feel supported by the people like Sam at Rasa who spoke to this situation online after a chat I had with him, and great businesses like Pig and Pepper, Book Folk, Scrivener’s, Chocolatier, The Herb Garden, Green Pavilion Cafe. To think that on a day off many of you have the option of popping in to some of these great places and chatting with us as business owners gives me such a lovely warm glow. At a time when loads of us have seem to forgotten that we have more in common than that which sets us apart, it’s lovely to see action all around us which says “community”.

So, thank you, and please do come and check us out and support your other faves too.

The depressing alternative is seeing any of these lovely businesses disappear. It happens, and you’ll probably know that there are examples right now in town of ones which haven’t made it.

No small business is immune from that.

Many won’t write from their heart like we have and actually tell you what’s going on, but we’d like to assure you, that in choosing something that isn’t a supermarket or an online behemoth, you are absolutely making a very big difference, so take that on board, you absolutely have the power to fuel the community you want to see.

Thanks x

With love and hope

Mark, Holly, Jamie and the rest of the team x
