Spring Newsletter from Day Zero

Hi

Day Zero Spring 2025 Update

We thought it time we penned another newsletter to update and reconnect with you all.

Part of us reaching out is to thank you for the support you give us. Some of you have shopped with us for a number of years and some of you are new, but in whatever way you’re supporting us, we want to say “Thank you”.

We created Day Zero to solve a problem which we collectively have, finding goods which are ethically sound across a number of issues.

Reducing single-use plastic was where we started, but since then we’ve woven all sorts of other factors into what we do. Rest assured that’s what we’ll always offer you.

Since our last newsletter, we’ve had a change of staff here, Jamie started in the New Year and he’s a familiar face to those of you who have home deliveries from us as he’s also the man turning the pedals to bring you veg boxes each week. We ought to pause here and reflect on the day when we had that huge dump of snow and Jamie somehow got all the veg boxes delivered on the bike in a single afternoon. We’re still not sure how he did that!

Jamie’s arrival isn’t the only change here, as we’ve continued to adapt our offering in the last few months. We’ve switched some products for healthier versions as we’ve been digging into some of the additives in foods. We’ve brought in new products like the deli range from both Mr Organic and Delphi to offer some tasty options like olive breadsticks and flatbreads, and pots of sundried tomato and feta.

Refill crisps have returned too, supplied by SESI in reusable tubs so even their crisps are part of a circular economic model.

And we want to mention the inspiring work done by the Palestinian company Zaytoun whose products we now stock. Amongst them are the wonderful za’atar herb mix, olive oil soap and their always popular jumbo medjoul dates.

Something new also arrived in the shape of our home refill system for cleaning products. If you’re a Buxton customer who receives a delivery from us, just leave labelled bottles out for any of our cleaning products and we’ll refill and return them with your next order. You don’t need to pre-book this or pre-pay for the cleaning refills, they get added on to your next order. Until the end of June there is 10% off these refills. Please do support this getting off the ground as we will then take the scheme to more people in the future.

Right now, some of the seasonal fruit and veg favourites make an appearance and we’re blessed currently with such a great range. Your best days to call in for veg at the shop are Friday and Saturday if you’re someone who doesn’t get a home delivery. Currently our customers are enjoying the pick of the ever so sweet cherry tomatoes from the Isle of Wight, lions mane mushrooms from Lancashire and the best tasting English asparagus from the Lincolnshire fens. And we really do stand by our claim that the fruit and veg is the best tasting you can get hold of, we constantly get customers commenting on how good it is.

Pop in and pick up some veg or fruit from us as part of your weekly shop. We’re looking for more veg box customers too, and can create any sort of box for you, so whatever your needs are, we can meet them. If you have fussy eaters and want to avoid certain things, if you want more fruit or only veg, if you don’t want potatoes or you want extra salad or no salad……you get the idea, we can do it.

This touches on something at the heart of our business, we believe we have to stand up and do things differently. We’re connected through many threads to the natural world, relying on it to be healthy enough to nourish us and relying on other people just like you and I who are enmeshed in this same network as a grower or picker or driver. We choose to weave a network with businesses who are committed to fairness for people and the natural world

It absolutely makes a difference when you walk through our door or shop online with us rather than choosing the supermarkets, who behind their own hype are to blame for perpetuating harmful practices that they really don’t want you to notice. Being a part of this community and supporting us at Day Zero in turn supports doing the right thing by nature. Who are we lending support to when we shop?

We’ll sign-off with a pause to celebrate what we do together here, a big thank you for your support and a challenge, a call to action.

Have a peek at your shopping list and find one or two things you currently buy elsewhere, when you could buy them from Day Zero.

Or if you’re popping in anyway for a refill, what can you pick up from us at the same time?

Can you start refilling your laundry liquid or washing up liquid here as you’re calling in anyway?

Can you pick up some fruit and veg when you’ve nipped in for your favourite chocolate (or vice-versa)?

How would it feel to be the next person to join our happy band of customers who order organic fruit and veg boxes from us regularly?

For us to be around for a long time in our community, we need each of you. We need you to take to heart how important you each are to our continued success.

Hopefully by bringing you up to date in this note, we’ve given you both a nice, warm fuzzy feeling by reminding you how important you are, and also challenged you to keep us in your thoughts to help us do more of all the good things we do. Do provide us with feedback about products you’d like to buy here too, we’d love to hear your ideas.

Hoping to see you all very soon

With love

Mark, Holly, Jamie and the team x
