Hi

How do you connect with the changing seasons? The beginning of this month is traditionally a time of celebrating the first of the harvests, where our anscestors on these isles marked the wheat harvest by baking bread.

In England the festival is known as Lammas, in Ireland it's known as Lughnasadh (gaelic) and in Welsh it's named Gŵyl Awst.

At the points of the year where these occasions have been celebrated we light a fire in the garden, and it's become a really nice tradition for us.

If you grow veg at home, you'll hopefully be starting to enjoy the fruits of your efforts. Alongside this, the volume and variety of organic produce available from the UK is now probably at it's peak for the year.

The new season of apples is here again, as I write this we have discovery apples at the shop which are always the first. Next week, we'll have another variety called George Cave alongside those, and from there we'll see new varieties every week through the autumn time.

If you haven't had a fruit and veg box from us before, you now have free choice of what you get in your box each week, so place an order and get some of those lovely new season apples. If you have a preference for variety just pop a note on the order.

Before I sign off, it's also sweetcorn season. This is the first week we're listing sweetcorn cobs, and they never hang around long, so don't forgot to add those to your veg box too. If you're a customer who has a standard sized box, you can always add extras from the 'pick your own' section.
