Will you help us thrive?

Hi ,
It Takes A Village….
We’re bringing you this update as we approach the end of our 6th year of trading, 6 years since we opened our lovely shop Day Zero.
We’re firm believers that “It takes a village to raise a child”. In this case, Day Zero is the child and it’s the support of every one of you which has been the nurturing presence that’s carried our venture through the first 6 years of life.
We’ve come to see how community matters. We created Day Zero to offer something which we knew many people were looking for, to bring together a place where you can buy goods which have been selected well across a number of ethical issues. How special it is to have such a community around us and to have found connection and made friends. How wonderful it is to find people who genuinely care and want to be a part of a different way of doing things. We have such gratitude for you all as a community.
We do believe we have to stand up and do things differently and that theme threads through everything we’re about at Day Zero. We’re connected through many threads to the natural world, relying on it to be healthy enough to nourish us and relying on other people just like you and I to be there woven into this same network to supply us.
We choose to weave a network with businesses who are committed to fairness for people and the natural world and we won’t work with anyone who doesn’t demonstrate such a commitment. Just like us, many of the businesses in this network that we’ve woven are families. Many of them are worker led co-operatives where everyone gets an equal share. These are the little things that perhaps aren’t always visible to you but are always there, making a difference when you choose us. The difference in a cooperative is that the typical board of directors is absent and instead everyone gets an equal share; which type of network would you rather be lending your support to?
Being a part of this community and supporting us at Day Zero in turn supports doing the right thing by others and by the natural world too. It absolutely makes a difference when you walk through our door or shop online with us rather than choosing the supermarkets, who behind their own hype are to blame for perpetuating harmful practices that they really don’t want you to notice.
So, why the reminder and why now?
As mentioned, the end of our 6th year of trading seems like a good time, and we’re also right at the start of what we hope will be a busy festive season for us when you really have a chance to make a difference. We have a lovely range of gift ideas and do note that it includes our extensive range of superb tasting organic wines too.
But there’s another call to action here. In doing things differently we’re always going to be pretty open with you about how things are going. Trade is difficult right now and we naturally want to reconnect with you, remind you of what we do and why and ask for your renewed support.
Perhaps there are items you can identify on your shopping list that out of habit you buy elsewhere, when you could buy them from Day Zero.
If you’re popping in anyway for a refill, there’s probably something else you can pick up at the same time. Can you get your cereal from us and start refilling your laundry liquid as you’re calling in for your bread flour anyway?
Could you come back to our lovely community and recommence refilling if you’ve just drifted away?
Can you pick up some fruit and veg when you’ve nipped in for your favourite chocolate (or vice-versa)?
Can you simply just buy an extra couple of items from us rather than at the supermarket?
Could you be the next person to join our happy band of customers who order organic fruit and veg boxes from us regularly?
To stay a valued part of your community, we need you all. We need you to remember and take to heart how important you are to our continued success. We’ve all seen businesses that we once loved disappear and we’ve probably wished there was something we could have done to keep them.
In our case, we want to ignite that passion at the heart of this community. We want you to choose us because we’re different, because of what our goals are. We genuinely want to do more for our community, to do more to help people and planet. Can you help?
Thank you, thank you, thank you from our hearts for all the support you’ve given us over the last 6 years. It continues to mean such a lot to us, truly.
Hopefully by bringing you up to date in this note, we’ve given you both a nice, warm fuzzy feeling from the reminder of just how important you are, and also challenged you to keep us in your thoughts to help us do more of all the good things we do.
We’ll see you soon
With love
Mark, Holly and the team x
