It's not very often that I escape book-related work for four whole days but that's exactly what happened this past weekend.

Our daughter and son-in-law traveled to Mexico on a business-related trip from Friday to yesterday so we were on full-time grandparent duty. I don't remember it taking this much energy twenty-five years ago when we raised our kids! We had a blast though, taking a short Amtrak ride from one town to the next, visiting the kids' museum, the zoo, and more. Thankfully, the other grandma enjoyed time with them too which gave us a break, and vice versa.

What am I reading this week? I picked up The Last Suppers by Mandy Mikulencak since it's the February selection for my library's book club. I just started reading it and have to hurry since we meet next week, but it's very good! The main character is a prison cook, serving inmates their last meals. It hooked from the first page. Below, Jennifer Griffith offers a charming Christmas-related story. Isn't that cover darling?
