Hello Dear Reader!

THE scent of warm chocolate hangs in the air as I type this and it is glorious!

You see, it's National Chocolate Cake Day (yes, it's a thing!) so I'm making one for dessert tonight. Specifically, a chocolate polka dot cake. It comes from a recipe book I picked up years ago when my husband and I spent an anniversary at a bed-and-breakfast in Davenport, Iowa. The 'polka dots' in this cake are a mixture of cream cheese, sugar, egg and chocolate chips, dropped by spoonfuls into the batter. It was a favorite request for birthday cakes for awhile, and it's pretty easy to make. I've posted a photo of the recipe in the comments on my Facebook post today if you'd like to try it yourself.

I'm almost finished reading the short stories in Sweet Romance: An Anthology. I bought a paperback when it became available and I could seriously swap out one of my 2 lb. hand weights for it. I usually lay down to read so that's why I can only tackle one story at a time. It's just so heavy! There's a short excerpt from "French Toast with a Side of Love" in the graphic below, my contribution to the anthology. If you’d like a sampling of free novellas by some of the anthology authors, here’s a promotion happening now through the end of March. Of course if you'd like to buy the anthology and get double use from it as workout equipment, you can buy it by clicking on the graphic.

THANK you to everyone who entered the Clean My Shelves Giveaway in the last newsletter. Just to give you an idea how good your chances are to win one of these monthly contests, I usually have between 20-35 people e-mail me to throw their hat into the ring. This time congratulations go to Debbie D. and Beverly L. who won the Fannie Flagg cookbook and Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul books respectively. I'm hosting a big February book promotion next month (with details in the next newsletter) so the contest will be back in March.

IF you'd like to hear more frequently about what I'm working on, help me name book characters, get advance notice on sales and other cool bookish events, consider joining my Facebook Reader's Group. It's an up-close and personal place to be if you want to hear about the fun and sometimes weird inner workings of one writer's life (me!) and like to hang out with other book-loving friends. I hope you'll join us!

Until next time and Happy Reading!
