This New Kind of Solar Panel Does Not Require Sunlight to Generate Electricity
1 min read
Carvey Ehren R. Maigue is the inventor of AuREUS (Aurora Renewable Energy and UV Sequestration), a solar panel which receives energy without the presence of sunlight. The panel instead uses ultraviolet light taken from organic luminescent compounds found in fruit and vegetables. These compounds then turn high energy ultraviolet rays into visible light. Solar panels and solar films are used to convert the light into electricity. The Pilipino and his invention won the James Dyson Sustainability Award. His intention is for AuREUS to be used on buildings in place of windows, making them vertical solar farms.
AuREUS is only a prototype 0,91x0,61-meter lime green tinted panel for now but will be further developed after the $35 000 prize from the James Dyson Award. As Maigue demonstrated for the award, this one panel is able to charge two phones per day after being fixed on his apartment window.
What are your thoughts on AuREUS? Do you think this is what solar panels will be like in the near future? Share your thoughts by replying to this email!
