Hey friends!

Did you hear?! On Monday 24 July 2023, Eskom took over the load shedding of the City of Ekurhuleni. This is big! One of the largest municipalities in the country has had their ability to turn the power off and then turn it back on again taken away.

Eskom said that this was because the City of Ekurhuleni was not conducting load shedding when it was supposed to. Eskom also claims that they warned the metro on multiple occasions and was thus left with no choice but to revoke their load shedding privileges.

You can find the full report here.

Some Ekurhuleni residents have been complaining that Eskom takes hours, if not days to return their electricity after load shedding. See the pictures below for some of these claims.

BUT WAIT! There's a plot twist. On Friday 28 July 2023, only 4 days after taking over, Eskom has handed the load shedding control back to the City of Ekurhuleni. Eskom said that they have put controls in place to ensure that the municipality conducts load shedding as scheduled.

All of this comes just a week after Eskom asked South Africans not to charge their inverters during load limiting (which is introduced during stages 1 to 4 of load shedding).

Let me know what you think of all this.

Stay charged!
