Have You Heard of Eskom's 'Load-Limiting' Project?

Hi friends!

Have you heard of Eskom's new load-limiting project? If not, I'll quickly fill you in. It's basically a project where Eskom will give select customers a smart meter which they will then use to reduce the electricity capacity of their homes to 10 Amps, which is less than the regular 60/80 Amps. This will allow customers to only use essential appliances during stages 1-4 of load shedding. You can find a table showing how many Amps the typical appliance uses here.

The customer has to manually make this amperage reduction themselves an hour before load shedding. If they don't, Eskom simply cuts their electricity off entirely as during normal stages of load shedding.

The aim of this project is to reduce the electricity demand during load shedding while allowing people to still have enough electricity for essential activities. The pilot project started last week Friday (23rd of June) in Fourways.

I really want to get your opinion on this.

Do you think this is a good initiative?

Do you think it will help reduce the impact of load shedding?

Would you take part in it?
