News from Frosthelm

Welcome, new folks!
Hi, there. If you've joined the mailing list recently, I want to make sure you get your free Frosthelm book, Traitors Unseen. If you haven't gotten it, you can get it free here (the site will ask you to sign up for this newsletter, which you're already getting) or here from Smashwords. It's also on Apple Books, Kobo, and Barnes & Noble. Please, enjoy with my compliments.
Kenai
I did some traveling over the past couple of weeks, which meant I didn't get as much done on my novels as I wanted, although I had a great time with relatives from both sides of my family. I'm still working on Kenai, my latest sci-fi story about an archeological dig on a distant world gone wrong. Kenai is set in the same imagined future as Daros, with most of humanity destroyed by a terrible war and its remnants rebuilding on the fringes of its former space, although Daros and Kenai share no characters or events. If this book meets the same warm reception that Daros did, maybe I can write some more and turn my one-word planet-name books into a series of sorts. It's a more challenging read plot-wise than Daros, and that makes it a bit harder to write, making sure everything is consistent and makes sense, but I still hope to get it ready before the end of the month.
Other Projects
Because it's easier to write than edit while traveling, I did make some progress on a new book. It's a fantasy story about a magic sword and the injured veteran soldier who finds it. I am excited to dive into it, but I still have a few things to finish up before I get too much deeper there. In addition to Kenai, I have a contemporary thriller nearly complete, and I'm also doing some work to do for a company that's invited me to help write some plot, dialogue, and worldbuilding.
Upcoming Blog Tours for Got Trouble
I have two blog tours coming up for Got Trouble, my recently-released thriller. The first will be in mid March, shown here:
The second will come later in March. I've already sent out a bunch of paperbacks for readers, and I'm excited to see what they think of Glynnis and Grimes. Here's a picture of some books packed up for tour participants.
Akata Witch review
I quite enjoyed Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor, and I shared my thoughts in a blog post here.
Some stories to try
I'm part of several author collectives, and we share each other's work to try to help all of us reach more readers. In many cases, the books we share are are free or discounted. Sometimes, they ask that you sign up for a newsletter like this one. Here are some new books I have to share this month - I have quite a few this time!
First, here's a free novella from Darren Askins: The Boot Mage, about a wizard whose area of specialty is just boots. Not even a loafer or flip flop. Just boots. Sounds very high concept and fun.
Next up is Conspiracy by Edita Petrick, whose books I've featured here frequently. This book tells the story of a scion of a powerful family who's gotten away from them to prove himself on a pleasure world, and of the woman he discovers there. Romance, intrigue, space politics - a lot of great ingredients here. The book is currently only $0.99.
Next is Hometown Space Pirate by C.G. Harris. It has a sarcastic gifted hero, an intelligent ship, aliens and AIs both hostile and friendly. Sounds like a grand galactic adventure.
Next, I have a book available as a review copy, which means the author is hoping (as we all do) that you'll leave a fair review of the book in exchange for a free copy. The book is Goodbye, Theodore by Candy Mitchell, a story of a man kidnapped by mysterious Twilight Breathers from an alternate place rifted into our own world, and the journey his friends go on to rescue him.
Here's a huge list of over 64 free fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal books with tons of authors represented:
Finally, here's a big list of free sci-fi novels - very cool stuff here:
Thanks
Thanks so much for being part of my little literary community. I really appreciate it! I hope you've had fun with my books, or if you're new, will enjoy the worlds of Frosthelm, Daros, and North Carolina.
May the Bloodmother watch over you -
Dave
