What You Need To Do Before Test Day

Hey everyone,

The August SAT is in four days.

For those of you taking the test this Saturday, I wanted to share a couple tips:

  1. Log into the Bluebook app on your testing device before test day. You'll need to run a quick "Exam Setup" before you can test.
  2. On test day, be sure to bring your fully charged device (3 hours of battery), photo ID, admission ticket, pencil/pen, and a snack for the break. Arrive on time or early, as you can be denied entry if you're late.
  3. Don't forget about the tools you have access to during the test! On the reading/writing section, you can highlight text or use the line reader, and on the math section, you can use Desmos and the reference sheet.

I also wanted to share a reading/writing tip we've been covering in our SAT Bootcamp, which starts running for the October SAT one week from today!

This one is specifically about grammar rules. What's the biggest tip here?

If you see a semicolon and a period in the same exact spot in the answer choices, they're both wrong.

Why is this true almost every single time? A semicolon and a period both function as a full stop to the sentence. That means that if the sentence did need a full stop, both of those answers would be correct. But since the SAT only allows one correct answer, you know you can mark both wrong.

Of course, that's just one tip. You should also be familiar with things like Subject-Verb Agreement, Subject-Modifier Placement, Verb Tenses, and other topics. If you're not able to join our bootcamp where we cover all these things, Khan Academy has a great section on grammar rules you can review.

In any case, make sure to get in your last-minute studying this week, don't cram the night before the exam, and get a good breakfast in on test day! Good luck to all test takers this weekend!

Talk soon,

Dan
