Hello!
WOW! What a weekend! On May 3, I was an attending author at the sold‑out WOW—Wild Out West event in Fremantle, Western Australia. It was every bit as fabulous as last year's.
I had a wonderful time, sold books, caught up with author friends, met new readers, and reconnected with readers from last year. We are already talking about next year’s event. I was also a sponsor this year, which made it even more special.
Huge thanks to organisers Louisa West and Julie Weaver and their team for another brilliant event.
I'm halfway through my current book, Ember's Curse. The book is mostly behaving. I can't say the same for some of my characters. I'll be sharing more news on this soon. :)
In other news, after ten years, I have stepped down from my volunteer role as the Aspiring Author Ambassador with Romance Writers of Australia. It has been a huge part of my life: a decade of cheering on new writers, helping them find their confidence, and building a space where people could learn, grow, and feel supported. In my opinion, it was the best volunteer role in the organisation, and I loved every minute of it.
One of the greatest honours of that time was receiving the Lynne Wilding Meritorious Service Award in 2019 and continuing to be voted for the award every year since. Those votes have always meant more to me than the outcome, and I am so grateful for all that support.
To the aspiring authors I have mentored over the years, thank you for letting me be a part of your writing experiences. I have celebrated your wins, empathised with your challenging moments, and enjoyed watching you grow. I will still cheer for you from the sidelines.
The role is now in wonderful hands. Selina Shapland, Lexi Haven, and Melinda Sorensen have stepped in to take over, and I could not be more confident in the care and generosity they will bring to Aspiring.
