URGENT: Protect your Kindle books by Feb 25!
Feb 23, 2025 9:19 pm
Hello ,
Popping in since I need to share some super important news about your Kindle books that requires your attention in the next two days.
Starting February 26th (yes, this Wednesday!), Amazon is removing the ability to download Kindle books to your computer.
This means you'll only be able to access your books through Amazon's cloud system, and you won't have the ability to keep backup copies of books you've purchased.
Why should you care?
- Amazon can modify or remove books you've purchased without notice
- If Amazon loses rights to a book, you could lose access to it
- You won't be able to move your books to other e-readers if you decide to switch
The good news is you have time to protect your book collection!
Here are two super helpful YouTube tutorials that will walk you through the process:
- "How to Bulk Download Kindle Books Before It's Too Late!" - A step-by-step guide using a simple script that makes downloading multiple books easier
- "Amazon's New Kindle Rule Will Affect You" - A detailed explanation of what's changing and how to protect your library
If you have hundreds of books like I do, there's a tool that can help you download them all quickly using a browser extension called Tampermonkey. It's much faster than downloading one book at a time—but it is a Chrome extension and opening it gives permissions you should be aware of since some people do not feel comfortable with them.
Don't wait on this!
Once February 26th hits, your ability to save the ebooks you purchased disappears. Now, you may never need to access your backup library, but if you're worried you might lose some or all of your reads, best to act now.
xo,
Danika
P.S. Please share this with other book-loving friends—we all need to protect our precious libraries! 💕
