Happy first weekend in the lunar new year, !

Since I last wrote you, which I just realized was three weeks ago, the blender that is my life has done a few spins!

  • Mr Bloom retired... he is a man free from a schedule—aside from knocking on my office door every hour to ask if I'm busy! I wish I was kidding...
  • My son and his girlfriend made a decision that will have a profound impact on my future (but that's not my news to share)
  • My brother and his dog moved back in with me and Mr Bloom. Will we ever be Empty Nesters?
  • I took a workday off to celebrate my birthday—something I've never done before! Mr. Bloom took me to Subway for lunch—how very retired of him!

I also started a 300 day course focused on helping me become my best, most authentic self. It's a lot of reading and a lot of homework in the form of journalling, but I love learning and when the learning is applicable to slowing the blender quality of my life—that brings me double-rainbow-level joy!

This is the last double rainbow I saw, from the deck on my house, in summer 2021. It touched the ground on both sides in our little village. It was so cool! Rainbows give me ridiculous happiness. I understand the science of them, but they can't escape being magic in my mind.

What brings you joy?

I'm wondering specifically about the romance books you read. Whether you've read my books or not, you're here, reading this email so I'd love to know what kinds of love stories draw you in and hold you tight.

I'd also love to know what stories are missing from your life—the happily ever after you'd love to read but haven't found yet.

I just joined an anthology to write a novella in the next month—but I have no idea who my hero and heroine are yet! I'm staring at a blank page... iI'm hoping you'll help me add some colour!

If you had magic rainbow powers, who would the hero be?

How old is he?

What's his job? Or is he retired? Or maybe so wealthy he doesn't need to work?

Why is he single? Is he divorced? Widowed? Just hasn't met the right woman?

What else do I need to know about the perfect hero in your dream love story?

And what about your perfect heroine?

Tell me about the woman whose life you'd love to fall into for a couple of hours as you imagine yourself with this man who is the perfect hero in your your mind.

And to make this fun, if you write back and give me something, anything to help me put ink on my blank page, I will include your first name in the story somewhere...

Maybe I'll name a street after you ... Crescent.

Or a restaurant ... Café .

Or a beloved pet, , the heroine's calico cat.

Who knows? I don't. Not yet.

But if you describe a hero and heroine you'd love to read about even with bullet points, they might just find become the two people who find their soul mates in this new, no idea what I'm writing yet, romance.

I cannot wait to hear your ideas and learn what brings you joy in a love story.

The thing about love…

It’s kind & beautiful, soft & hard, forgiving & emotional, but love can also be blind. Love can twist and turn you into someone unrecognizable.

It's now just after 10:30 on Saturday morning, here in the rainy Pacific Northwest. No chance of a rainbow today, but that's okay. I'll be finding joy in reading your emails this afternoon!

PS - If you want to have something specific named after you in this new novella, let me know when you tell me your dream hero's and heroine's characteristics. I'll do my best to make it so.

Though, if you ask for an alien to be named , that might be a little difficult since I'll be writing an Earthbound rom-com.
