And... a story from yours truly—timeless
I've been working on the next story in The Mixed Six-Pack series, Third Party. It's Josh's story. If you've read either First In or Second Breath, you've met him. He's a super nice guy... problem is, he's a bit too nice. Or he has been.
I've been struggling to give him some edge so the conflict between him and his HEA, Paige, has some teeth. This week, in a fit of desperation to force my nice guy to be mean for even a minute, I did the unthinkable....
unthinkable unless maybe you're a method actor...
or method romance writer, it turns out!
Yeah, I put myself right into Paige's London wellies and picked a fight with the real-life, nice guy hero of my own real-life HEA. I hoped that if I could literally feel that tension it would help me put it on the page.
Good news? It worked! I got Josh to say something mean and force Paige to walk away.
Other good news? My husband hero is wise to my quirks and quickly forgave me for being an ass. Phew.
My main take-away? If you ever hear me mutter that I'm going to write a reverse harem story—for gracious, goodness sake, stop me! Method writing in a second chance romance is one thing. It would not go over at all well in that other scenario.
With all kinds of love&stuff,
Danika
