😂 Sunday Funnies in 2023
Apr 22, 2023 6:11 pm
Hello !
I am of an age that in my childhood we had access to just four television stations—NBC, ABC, CBS and CBC (that's the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). Okay, that's not quite true. Since I grew up in Quebec, we also had some French language stations but with an American mom and Anglo dad, those stations were never on.
When I outgrew Saturday morning cartoons I started reading the entertainment section of the big, fat, Saturday newspaper. I swear, it had hundreds of pages. And the first place I'd always go to? The funny pages, of course!
I was recently looking at old comic strip books from my teen years. I have to say, they aren't nearly as funny now as they seemed forty years ago! Cathy ... Family Circle ... Garfield ... they don't even make me smirk anymore.
You know what is funny, though?
Books by my rom-com friends who all have new releases this month!
Get your Sunday funnies this weekend
I hope you'll join me for a (possibly NSFW) online reading event featuring four romance authors who will whisk you away to worlds filled with passion, love, and laughs.
On Sunday, April 23rd, I'm hosting an event featuring
Lainey Davis,
Liz Alden,
Karen Grey, and
Valerie Pepper,
as they unveil their latest releases.
During this special online event, each author will read from their new release, share insights into the inspiration behind their latest book, and answer your burning questions.
As a bonus, you'll have a chance to win copies of the authors’ new releases, as well as other fun giveaways.
Come! Join us for an hour that might just have you fanning yourself and wiping coffee from your computer screen.
Learn more about the event here. Or, go straight over to Eventbrite to grab your free ticket.
Do you love older couples' love stories?
My friend Brenda Margriet just released the fourth story in her Silverberry Seduction Seasoned Romance series. The heroine in this story is 36 and the hero is 42. Certainly not old in human years, but in romance years, these are seasoned lovers!! The book is available at all retailers.
Strictly by the Book
An adventurous, go-with-the-flow historian…a scrupulous, stick-to-the-rules scientist…an attraction so wrong it’s absolutely right.
Natalie Minton’s cheerful exterior hides desperation. She’s been out of work for months when her estranged sister appears on her doorstep pleading for help. An offer to write the biography of a local political legend couldn’t come at a better time.
Rafe Talbot rejected family tradition and chose medicine over politics. When he stumbles upon evidence of a hidden scandal, his only recourse is to work alongside—and stay one step ahead of—the vivacious scholar hired to chronicle his mother’s career.
Natalie’s exuberance strikes sparks off Rafe’s steely severity, luring them to ignore the secrets shadowing their pasts…until the glare of the present exposes intolerable truths.
Guess the clickiest cover, win a prize
I've been testing these different covers using Facebook ads, to see which one is clickiest—clicky is good since it means it's made people interested to learn more about the story.
Here are the covers I've been testing:
I'd love to know which cover you would be most inclined to click if it showed up in your Facebook feed.
If you want to read what the story's about, it's here.
Email back with the number of the cover you'd be most likely to check out. I'll drop your name into a random name picker app with everyone who replies and mail the winner some fun romance-themed stickers and magnets.
I can't wait to see which cover you choose. So far, among over a dozen friends, not one person has guessed the same oder as the testing is showing. Social science experiments are so fun!
I really hope to meet you on Sunday at the reading. And don't worry about putting on your face—you don't need to your camera on!
love & shrubberystuff,
Danika
