Something you might not have thought about recently...

I got to preach this Sunday at my home church here in Boise, ID. My topic? "God is Slow to Anger" from Exodus 34.
I saw so many parallels between God's treatment of the Israelites in Exodus and my own aspirations for how I want to parent my toddler. God uses the desert wandering to teach his people who, what, and how to obey. Unlike me though, God is constantly, consistently, Slow. To. Anger.
We all know that obedience and authority are unpopular words in today's culture. Instagram has played a large role in my parenting worldview and I've just recently realized how the idea that "bad behavior is just an unmet need" is not only wrong, but harmful to children.
Don’t get me wrong - I SO appreciate the advances in psychology and child development that have helped me recognize and teach the importance of emotions to my little one.
But I (we) also cannot forget that children (and their parents!) are also sinners in need of God's grace.
