The cracks are how to love gets in.

Hey there, , I know that it's weird to check up on someone you don't necessary know. But seriously, how are you doing?

When it comes to the broken parts of our lives, we can tend towards two extremes:

"What cracks? I'm fine!"

or

"I'm SOOOOOOOO messed up I can't see straight."

I think both of these are distortions. You aren't defined by your brokenness. But we can't ignore it entirely either (caution: sharp edges!).

Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with liquid gold. The resulting repair is beautiful and strong.

I had the honor of working with a group of ladies who are currently working through their brokenness (like many of us).

You can try it for yourself at home!

  1. Create a rough self portrait - it’s ok to not be perfect at it.
  2. Cut it apart. Notice your feelings as you do so.
  3. Playfully look at the pieces and consider if one or more need to be completely replaced
  4. Glue it all back together with a sheet of gold glitter paper showing underneath.
  5. Show someone what you made (this might be the hardest part).

The issue is not just brokenness, but identity- how do we see ourselves in light of the broken parts?

2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV But [God] said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

“The cracks are how the love gets in.” - my wise & loving husband
