Courses I’m currently taking as a data scientist switching to AI
Feb 24, 2025 2:48 pm
Hey, happy Monday!
It was early on in my physics studies that I realized that your learning never stops if you’re a man (woman in my case) of science. And it’s the same with data science.
For me, being a data scientist is like you’re always walking too close to the fire, always on the brink of an emerging technology.
Whether it was IoT, Augmented Reality, Blockchain or now, the next gen artificial intelligence, I feel like I always need to stay competitive to make good results, and AI growth is one area we data scientists thrive in.
In this newsletter, I want to share 5 courses/tutorials/books I am currently involved with because they’re tied to the rapid growth of AI. Continue reading, and let me know if you’re taking some of these too.
Note: I’m not taking all of these simultaneously. Some of them are just informational, and I listen to them while I’m cooking, coding, walking or doing anything else. It’s not a good practice to follow more than one course at the same time, so please learn responsibly, don’t fall into tutorial hell and more importantly, don’t burn out.
Datacamp: Introduction to deep learning with PyTorch
Datacamp is my comfort data science learning platform. It may not be everyone’s first choice, but they have great certification programs and it’s more affordable than most other platforms.
Making a year-long investment can return tenfold if you’re persistent, consistent and disciplined in your learning.
The reason I took this course is because PyTorch is way more popular than Tensorflow and Keras. While I already have some experience in it, I wanted to see how it works with LLMs, and this course covers a lot when it comes to this field.

Freecodecamp.org: Ollama course: Build AI apps locally
I know many people are limited when it comes to physical resources for building AI apps.
My MacBook is great, but having a physical Nvidia card makes a whole difference. I want to start building apps locally, especially as I’m specializing towards the health industry.
If it’s something you want to explore too, this course is free on YouTube, and taught by amazing Paulo Dichone.

The Chief AI Officer’s Handbook - Jarrod Anderson
I’ve just received this book from Packt Publishing and I’ve just started reading. I believe it to be a promising start if you think you have enough experience in tech to move towards more leadership-focused roles, like manager, product manager, product CAIO (Chief AI officer)
You can grab the book here
Krish Naik’s Agentic AI series
Krish Naik is a pleasure to follow and listen to. I learned a lot from him and I feel like his tutorials are beginner-friendly. But hey, even experts sometimes need some complex concepts distilled like for a beginner.
This is what I listen or watch in the background while working on something. I summarize what I need, add it to my notes and find it very helpful for later when I’m applying it.
Yes, I make it my priority to apply what I’ve learned as soon as possible because if you don’t do it, you’ll forget it or again, fall victim to tutorial hell.

The AI Engineer Roadmap
It’s not because I wrote it, but the AI engineer roadmap really helps me uncover some pattern just when I think about giving up.
Even if you have a couple of years of experience at your hand and worked on numerous projects, every now and then you need to go at the very beginning and follow a pathway that takes you where you need to be.
That’s what I use the AI engineer roadmap for, and every beginner can greatly benefit from it. It allows you to:
- Learn more effectively because you follow a path that tells you exactly what you need to learn.
- Get the necessary guidance within your industry and build projects your recruiters will love and commend you for
- Build a problem-solving attitude and skills that enable critical thinking and approach problems like a pro.
- Grow as an individual because this roadmap is not only about technical skills but also cultivating soft skills that will make you a better AI engineer.
Just for a limited time, I brought the Data Scientist + AI Engineer Combo back. It allows you to save over $70 and get all the future updates for free - for the lifetime of the product.
Check it out here:
I hope I got you hyped up for some heavy lifting in the data and AI space. I wish you a great beginning of the week and see you next Monday!
Yours sincerely, Danica
