🍁 Exciting Changes Ahead: Fall Updates at the Creative Academy

Aug 29, 2024 2:30 pm

Hi ,

"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable." Helen Keller

September always has a bit of a New Year’s feeling for us. It feels like a fresh start, a chance to reinvent yourself.  All those years of going back to school with new supplies and clothes ingrained a sense of renewal this time of year.. It makes it  a perfect time to announce that we will be transitioning to a new format between now and the end of the year!

Why Make Changes

We founded the Academy with the goal that all would be welcome in this space, regardless of what you write or where you are on this writing journey. We firmly believe that there is room for all of us and our unique stories on the shelves and that the way we get better is by lifting up and supporting others in the creative community.

While our mission hasn’t changed - the online writing community world certainly has! We recognize that there are more demands for your time and a wealth of learning opportunities available. Not to mention for us, there are increasing costs to keeping the community viable. We will be pivoting to having fewer, but more comprehensive paid events.

Some New Academy Features Include:

  • In person events in the Vancouver region
  • Guest speakers
  • More in-depth workshops
  • Conferences

Stay tuned to hear our line up for the first quarter of 2025.  And don’t worry- many of our existing features will remain the same at no additional cost, including the forums, access to the archives, accountability groups, and genre meet-ups.

How Can I Be a Part of Things?

There are several things you can do to be an active part of the community.

We will slowly be implementing changes over the coming months- but don’t worry- we still have plenty to keep you busy!

 Workshop Wednesdays/Events:

  • September 4th  Workshop Wednesday-Setting with Eileen
  • September 18th  Workshop Wednesday-Bookstagrammers with Stephanie

We’re also excited for a special event this month, September 11th 5:00-6:00pm PDT Jenny Graham Lang will be leading a panel discussion on audio books. If you’ve ever wondered how this works both from an indie and a traditional point of view be sure to add this to your schedule.

We’ll be hosting a Q&A about the changes on October 5th at 10am PDT, but feel free to reach out to us with any thoughts.
