Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes

Book club is back for August! Let's meetup and chat about Rachel's Holiday by Keyes, Marian (and possibly talk about the sequel Again Rachel, if people also finish that one). 

Meet Rachel Walsh. She has a pair of size 8 feet and such a fondness for recreational drugs that her family has forked out the cash for a spell in Cloisters – Dublin’s answer to the Betty Ford Clinic. She’s only agreed to her incarceration because she’s heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going tepid turkey – and it’s about time she had a holiday. 

Rachel's Holiday came out in 1997, and the sequel Again Rachel came out in 2022. It will be interesting to see what made the book work so well that a sequel could come out 25 years later.

We will meet on zoom to discuss the book from a writer's perspective. What worked in this book? what didn't work? What did we learn about the craft from reading this book? what could have been improved?

Everyone is welcome to join in the discussion, even if you haven't read the book, but it's more fun if you've read the book :D

We're chatting about life in the US Army with Creative Academy member Olivia Rexford. 

From Olivia: I’m an Active duty Quartermaster officer in the United States Army. I did 4 years in the reserve officer training corps (ROTC) to get my degree and commission simultaneously. I’m more than happy to answer questions about training, day in the life, physical expectations, acronyms, culture of the U.S. military, and share my experiences as a female officer!
